Most registered dietitians (RDs) and nutritionists were trained using this exact pyramid. Many still cling to it or its slightly updated versions today, because their credentials depend on it.

They’re often:

  • Encouraged to recommend low-fat, high-carb, calorie-counting approaches

  • Trained to fear animal fats and red meat

  • Paid to promote fortified junk and “balanced meals” that include sugary cereals

  • Constrained by outdated government standards and industry-funded education
